Firenze
TERRITORIAL SCALE: CONURBATION
Capital of Toscana region, the town saw its utmost splendours in arts, culture, politics and economical authority during the Renaissance. Soon after the Unity of Italy, it became national capital from 1865 to 1871.
During the last post-war years, the urban history of Firenze is characterised, like everywhere in Italy, by the predominance of the “spontaneous” dynamics of the town, with the saturation of the built-up areas, the spreading like wildfire, the lack in outfits, services and greenery, all these not avoided even by the first town planning of 1951.
Once museum-town, nowadays it has become a dynamic city fully developing.
