The lack in continuity between the elements composing the whole area generates a condition of general social isolation that avoids the creation of a common “identity” of the site.
The guide project of architect Giancarlo DeCarlo of 2004 represents the basis for the environmental and social requalification of the area. This is inserted in a range of the municipality initiatives aimed to implement the cohesion and the social integration.
The strategic introduction of new functions, able to supply suitable services and to characterise the future park of Le Piagge, will become the needed urban and social bond. Moreover, it is essential to develop a method to re-establish the relation between the area and the river banks, even though by integrating the needed embankment/railway axis. This could allow not only to develop the potentialities of the area, but also to characterise and upgrade it.
